Tree Lopping

When people imagine tree pruning, they often call it ‘tree lopping’, also known as tree ‘topping’.

Tree lopping involves cutting off the top portion of a tree’s canopy or branches but it can have detrimental effects on your tree and the environment around it and is renowned for being bad practice.

  1. Structural integrity: Tree lopping removes the uppermost branches, disrupting the natural structure and balance of the tree. This can lead to weakened branches, making the tree more susceptible to breakage during storms or high winds.
  2. Disease and decay: The large wounds created by tree lopping provide an entry point for pests, diseases, and decay-causing organisms. The tree’s natural defense mechanisms are compromised, increasing the risk of infections and long-term health issues.
  3. Regrowth issues: After tree lopping, trees respond by initiating rapid, weak, and poorly attached regrowth. These new branches are often prone to structural failure, creating a cycle of ongoing maintenance needs and potential hazards.
  4. Sunburn and bark damage: The sudden removal of a significant portion of a tree’s canopy exposes the remaining bark and branches to excessive sunlight. This can result in sunburn, scalding, and even death of the tree’s tissues.
  5. Aesthetic impact: Tree lopping can negatively affect the overall appearance and aesthetic value of trees. Instead of maintaining their natural shape and beauty, lopped trees often exhibit unsightly, unnatural growth patterns.
  6. Environmental impact: Trees play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. By removing large branches, tree lopping disrupts the tree’s ability to provide shade, shelter, and habitat for various wildlife. It can also lead to soil erosion and negatively impact water infiltration.

It’s important to note that proper tree care techniques, such as selective pruning, should be used instead of tree lopping to ensure the long-term health and well-being of trees.

Tree Removal

Tree removal can seem like a daunting task. There are many questions you may be asking yourself before you have even picked up the phone or sent an email requesting a quote.

Tree Pruning

Our main consideration, above all, is retaining trees where possible. The combined years of experience of our team means that we understand the biology of trees and that where some may see removal as the only option, we will first check every other option; one of these being tree pruning.

Palm Pruning & Removal

Palm pruning is important for several reasons. Firstly, it helps to maintain the health and vitality of the palm tree. By removing dead or diseased fronds, you can prevent the spread of infections and improve overall tree health. Palm pruning also allows for better air circulation and sunlight penetration into the crown of the palm, promoting healthy growth.

Arborist Tree Reports

Providing Arborist Tree Reports is another service we can offer when necessary.

An Arborist Tree Report typically includes information about the health, safety, and condition of the trees or tree. It can cover aspects such as tree species, diameter, height, overall health, diseases or pests, structural integrity, and recommendations for care or removal if necessary.
